“Our Civilization Will Triumph!” Trump and the Death of Multiculturalism

Posted by Steve Turley ● Aug 3, 2017 1:41:00 PM

As Trump is winding up his G20 meetings, I wanted to weigh in on what I believe will go down as one of the most significant speeches of our time, the speech that Trump delivered in Warsaw. In many respects, it was as Adam Shaw put it, the final nail in the Obama-era multicultural coffin. The unabashed defense of nationalism and Western Christian civilization did nothing less than punctuate the end of the Obama era, the end of the apology tours, the end of lecturing on universal human rights and secular liberal values. No, instead Trump’s speech could in many ways be summarized with the title: “The Defense of the West” or “The Defense of Western Civilization.” It’s a speech that many of us have longed to hear for the last several years, and we got it, and we got it big time. Trump never does anything halfway, including his nationalism.

Here’s one of the key moments in his speech:

"The defense of the West ultimately rests not only on means, but also on the will of its people to prevail and be successful and get what you have to have.  The fundamental question of our time is whether the West has the will to survive.  Do we have the confidence in our values to defend them at any cost?  Do we have enough respect for our citizens to protect our borders?  [Did you get that? Do we have enough respect for our citizens to protect our borders. Open borders is a disrespect to our citizens! Do we have the desire and the courage to preserve our civilization in the face of those who would subvert and destroy it?"

And again, I think Adam Shaw got this exactly right when he pointed out that things like the travel ban, and pulling out of the Paris climate deal, and calling out the freeloaders of NATO (of which Poland is not one, by the way, Poland paid its fair dues), all of these policies and practices is Trump’s way of answering that question with a very confident ‘Yes’; you sure as heck bet I’ve got the desire and the courage to preserve our civilization!

And he went on. Trump was absolutely unabashed in his love and admiration for Western culture. Listen to this:

"We write symphonies. We pursue innovation. We celebrate our ancient heroes, embrace our timeless traditions and customs, and always seek to explore and discover brand-new frontiers. We reward brilliance. We strive for excellence, and cherish inspiring works of art that honor God.  We treasure the rule of law and protect the right to free speech and free expression. We empower women as pillars of our society and of our success. We put faith and family, not government and bureaucracy, at the center of our lives. And we debate everything. We challenge everything. We seek to know everything so that we can better know ourselves."

Hmm, a little Socrates there: ‘Know thyself.’ Did you notice what’s missing from all of this? No talk about civilization’s debt to Islam like some other globalist moron said in Cairo. Remember the infamous prayer breakfast speech? Hmm? Remember that? When Obamanation was talking about the violence in Islamic terror, though never using the term of course, he turned to the Christians in the room and said that ‘we’. Strange use of that term ‘we’ when talking with Christians. Nevertheless, we ought not to get on our high horse and think this is unique to Islam, after all, we committed our own crimes during the Crusades and the Inquisition, and slavery and Jim Crow laws, all justified in the name of Christ.

You’ll notice we didn’t hear anything like that. And by the way, do your own research; this is another reason why we don’t need the secular liberal media any more. Do your own google search on Obama’s comments at the National Prayer Breakfast back in 2015, and you will be astounded. No you probably won’t be, but I was astounded at the sympathetic, corroborating, glowing, even I would say gushy coverage such comments got from The Washington Post and the New York Times. Check it out and then compare that coverage to Trump. The discrepancy is stunning. Enough about them; they’re not even remotely worthy of our time and attention.

My favorite part of the speech is when Trump defended the sanctity of human life as an intrinsic Western value, which he’s absolutely right on:

"And above all, we value the dignity of every human life, protect the rights of every person, and share the hope of every soul to live in freedom. That is who we are. Those are the priceless ties that bind us together as nations, as allies, and as a civilization."

Now the president is delivering these remarks in Poland which has some of the strictest abortion laws in Europe, they only make three exceptions: rape, the risk of the life of the mother, and serous malformations in the fetus. You’ll notice, too, there were no references to flying rainbow flags, no sodomite marriage rights celebrations, or anything like that. Of course it wouldn’t fly in Poland; not only is marriage constitutionally protected in Poland, as it will one day here in our constitution. They are one of six European Union nations that refuse to even recognize so-called same-sex civil unions. Poland is standing strong against the Christophobic homofascists who run the European Union and there’s no sign of Poland backing down on this one.

Now I’m sure you’ve at least been somewhat privy to the mindless secular leftists at Salon and Newsweek and Slate who have been calling this speech racist and xenophobic. I recall a time when Rick Santorum visited the university I teach at and there was a public protest against his speech because it was too, ready for this, ‘westocentric’. What I find so interesting in all of this is that this whole multiculturalism myth is collapsing everywhere we look. As it should; it’s absolutely unsustainable.

For example, I think we need to go to these writers at Salon and other leftwing lunatic asylums and remind them that their attempt to logically analyze Trump’s speech is itself racist. The belief that what they are saying is objectively true in such a way that Trump himself is accountable to it is actually a racist belief and practice. That of course comes to us from the secular leftwing campus, particularly the enlightened “students” at Pomona College in California who wrote a letter protesting that the notion of objective truth was a hangover from our days of white supremacy. Objective truth is racist. So I guess all of the analysis from the leftwing news sites of Trump’s Poland speech are guilty of racism, on their own multiculturalist terms.

The sad truth, well sad for them, is that multiculturalism is collapsing all over the place. Indeed, what it’s turning into is actually tribalism; multiculturalism has collapsed into tribalism. And this is largely through the incoherence of globalistic secularization. Secularization promotes multiculturalism because it strips the public square of any dominant historic culture such as Christian culture; secular societies breed pluralism because secularism relocates all traditional cultures to the private sphere of life, with no one culture able to claim its superiority over another culture. But the problem here is now you have a culture of multiculturalism. We have a culture that monolithically celebrates non-monolithic culture. That’s the incoherence of secularization. But moreover, secularization we’re finding actually is awakening ethnic and tribal loyalties that are becoming absolute in their nature. Increasingly now you have groups like Black Lives Matter that are openly advocating black-only dorms on college campuses; and amazingly you have the university complying with such blatantly racist sentiments. Or think of Colin Kaepernick and his ethnic nationalism that refuses to stand for events celebrating civic nationalism such as our flag and national anthem. So multiculturalism is collapsing all over the place.

And of course, this is all too predictable. Culture, historically and indeed anthropologically, is the immune system of a population. Culture is the immune system of a population. Culture is the primary way in which a population is able to perpetuate and sustain itself throughout generations, largely by establishing shared beliefs and practices that bind the population together. Now what those beliefs and practices do is they identify collectively what is natural and normal on the one hand, and what’s a threat to that normalcy on the other. And when you act as if culture doesn’t matter, that culture is just a matter of personal opinion or self-identity, you no longer have an immune system to protect you from demographic, economic, political, and social threats. You no longer know what’s natural and normal, and hence you no longer know what’s a friend and what’s a foe. If you don’t know the difference between a male and female, how are you going to know the difference between a friend and a foe? And so multiculturalism collapses inwardly into tribalized allegiances that now at least know who’s in and who’s out; who belongs and who doesn’t. That’s the role of culture. So multiculturalism is dying inwardly.

And of course, it is dying outwardly. If culture is an immune system of a population, what do you think will eventually happen to people running around saying something like: "Hey, Western culture sucks; Western culture is evil and racist and bigoted; or You better not get on your high horse and point fingers at Islam, which has been so central to human civilization." Guess what’s eventually going to happen? That western culture that you so despise is going to eventually rise up and defend itself against you. And it is going to do so overwhelmingly. And that is how I think we need to understand the significance of the speech delivered in Warsaw by one Donald J. Trump who unabashedly proclaimed the Triumph of the West, and in so doing, the death knell for multiculturalism.
